Rounding off their European tour, Primus have added 2 dates in the UK, the first in 12th July 2011 at Manchester Academy, the second at Brixton 02 Academy in London in July 13th 2011. It will be the first time that the band have played in Britain for over a decade, though enigmatic frontman Les Claypool performed with his solo outfit in London last March.
With British Primus fans itching to see these legends of irreverent, technically proficient and relentlessly stunning music, both these venues are set to sell out fast, and eager followers are well advised to make their bookings as soon as possible.
New Album from Primus
This finale to their world tour comes in conjunction with the production of a brand new Primus album, which will be their first musical release since the Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People EP/DVD back in 2003.
Their new song, Last Salmon Man (the 4th part on their legendary Fisherman Chronicles saga) was unveiled to the delight of fans at recent shows in America, and Les Claypool recently announced that the studio album was almost in completion.
Early Drummer Returns After 20 year Absence
For Primus’ latest outing, Les Claypool will be accompanied by his long term and ever faithful guitarist Larry Lalonde, and drummer Jay Lane, who has replaced long term Primus drummer Tim Alexander. However die-hard Primus fans may know Jay Lane from Primus’ earliest conception back in the late 80’s. Along with guitarist Todd Huth, Lane served as Primus’ drummer before the band released any records, and left the group in place of Tim “Herb” Alexander before the recording of their debut EP, Suck On This in 1990.
Since that time, the role of the drummer has changed and re-changed hands numerously, as Tim Alexander temporary left in 1996, to be replaced by Brian “Brain” Mantia. Alexander later returned for Primus’ reunion in 2003, and handed his role back over to Jay Lane last year in 2010. However each drummer has showed consistent showmanship and a drumming excellence that has never failed to percussively justify the immaculate guitar skills of Lalonde, and the ever mesmerising bass work of Les Claypool himself.
Primus' Epic Live Shows
Beside their ground breaking music, Primus are probably most renowned for their live shows, never failing to give 100% and often playing their songs to a level of expertise that even surpasses the quality of their album recordings.
With dazzling visuals, humorous liaising with audiences, welcomed encores, surprising alterations to their classic numbers, and overall, a performance as effortlessly substantial as any fan could hope for, Les Claypool’s most prolific musical creation sets a nearly unbeatable standard whenever and wherever they play. And although in existence for more than 2 decades, British fans can expect shows as energetic and exciting as any newcomers could possibly hope to achieve.
